Take especial care to explain the dangers of these disaster events to children.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Explain what to do in each case.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Pick two places to meet:<\/span><ul><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Right outside your home in case of a sudden emergency, like a fire.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Outside your neighborhood in case you can&#8217;t return home. Everyone must know the address, how to get there, and the phone number.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Ask a friend or family member to be your \u201cfamily contact.\u201d Other family members should call this person and tell them where they are. Every member of the family must know your contact&#8217;s phone number.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Discuss what to do and where to go if you have to evacuate.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">Plan how to take care of your pets. In a disaster, ordinary items in the home can cause injury and damage. Anything that can move, fall, break, or cause a fire is a potential hazard.
