{"id":3308,"date":"2020-08-24T20:03:49","date_gmt":"2020-08-24T20:03:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.odpem.org.jm\/?post_type=odpem_in_the_media&#038;p=3308"},"modified":"2020-08-24T20:03:51","modified_gmt":"2020-08-24T20:03:51","slug":"tropical-storm-laura-passing-north-of-jamaica-today","status":"publish","type":"odpem_in_the_media","link":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/?odpem_in_the_media=tropical-storm-laura-passing-north-of-jamaica-today","title":{"rendered":"Tropical Storm Laura Passing North of Jamaica Today"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"background-color:yellow\">The Office of Disaster Preparedness &amp; Emergency Management<\/span>, <span style=\"background-color:yellow\">ODPEM<\/span>, says Tropical Storm Laura is passing north of Jamaica today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"background-color:yellow\">ODPEM<\/span> says there\u2019s a strong possibility for more rain and high wind gust for the Eastern &amp; Southern Parishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include Portland, St. Thomas, Kingston &amp; St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Met Office is warning that the chance of flash flooding across Jamaica has increased considerably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The flash flood watch will remain in effect for all parishes until 8:00 this evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, motorists are being advised that due to the heavy rains over much of the island yesterday, a section of the Gordon Town main road, in the vicinity of Dam Head in St. Andrew, is again blocked due to a landslide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area was cleared last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the National Works Agency, NWA, said on Twitter that continuous heavy rain in the area has caused a further mud and rock slide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It says heavy equipment is in the area, but the situation is extremely dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In St. Thomas, a bridge at Trinityville Road has been washed away by flood waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Residents of Trinityville, Georgia and Cedar Valley have been impacted as there\u2019s no established alternative route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Clarendon, the NWA says the main road between Trout Hall and James Hill is impassable following a landslide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NWA says operators of small vehicles should exercise extreme caution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Agency says they\u2019re mobilising heavy equipment to clear the road, even as the rain continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The public is also being cautioned to avoid travelling along flooded roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Police are advising persons to delay travel until waters recede.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":3309,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"give_campaign_id":0,"_angie_page":false},"odpem_news":[],"class_list":["post-3308","odpem_in_the_media","type-odpem_in_the_media","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/odpem_in_the_media\/3308","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/odpem_in_the_media"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/odpem_in_the_media"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/3309"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=3308"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"odpem_news","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fodpem_news&post=3308"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
