{"id":1155,"date":"2010-04-14T15:35:10","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T15:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.odpem.org.jm\/?post_type=odpem_in_the_media&#038;p=1155"},"modified":"2019-08-22T15:39:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T15:39:00","slug":"felt-earthquake","status":"publish","type":"odpem_in_the_media","link":"https:\/\/www.odpem.gov.jm\/?odpem_in_the_media=felt-earthquake","title":{"rendered":"Felt Earthquake"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has been advised by the Earthquake Unit that an earthquake was reportedly felt at 3:51 p.m. today. The epicenter was located near Chestervale, St. Andrew with a magnitude of 3.7 and a focal depth of 9.9km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reportedly felt in Half \u2013Way \u2013Tree, Mona, New Kingston, Havendale, Stony Hill, Downtown Kingston, and Portmore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ODPEM implores all Jamaicans to take the following precautions should an earthquake<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>occur:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to do before an earthquake:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Always have on hand emergency kits.<\/li><li>Practice earthquake drills at schools, homes, and offices.<\/li><li>Look around your school, home and offices for things that could fall and injure you.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to do during an earthquake:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Be calm. If you are inside, stay there.<\/li><li>Get under heavy furniture such as a sturdy desk or table.<\/li><li>Do not rush to exits.<\/li><li>If you are outside, stay there. Avoid the hazards, which could cause injury.<\/li><li>If you are in a vehicle, drive away from bridges and stop in the safest place possible.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to do after an earthquake:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Evacuate the building immediately after the shaking stops.<\/li><li>Be prepared for additional aftershocks.<\/li><li>Listen to the radio and follow emergency instructions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, earthquakes cannot be predicted therefore our vulnerability to earthquakes is always imminent, how well you survive an earthquake depends on how prepared you are for one.
